There are those we consider successful, those who have done the hard work needed for success and made certain sacrifices to achieve their dreams. We call them successful people.
On the other hand there are those that find themselves stuck in life and making no progress at all.
What makes the difference? What do successful people do to get the results everyone desires to have?
I’ve sometimes wondered, what’s the difference between me and those that are hugely successful?
Is there something special they do to achieve success?
Have you found yourself asking these questions or have you simply decided that successful people just got lucky in life?
Whatever answer you got, be it lucky, or they have some sort of Midas touch, believe me you can have the same by adopting these 7 tips on what successful people do differently.
1. They silence the negative voices in their head
You won’t go far if negativity is always eating you up.
Successful people have fear and doubt, just like you do but any time the voice of fear and failure starts to speak, it gets challenged, or silenced. You too can do this by replacing those negative thoughts with positive ones.
Daily affirmations are a great tool.
Tell yourself each and every day “I can make it, I am good enough, I am smart enough.”
Doing this in the face of all odds will get you from where you’ve placed yourself through limiting beliefs to where you want to be.
2. They build productive habits
The habits we’ve cultivated over time control our life. If you find yourself making no progress or struggling to achieve certain things, then your habits are unproductive, and you have to start building new more productive ones.
Cultivating productive habits means letting go unproductive ones to allow for a change.
And I know this isn’t easy, simple as it may sound.
Change is difficult, but successful people know that sticking to their old habits yields no new results.
If you’ve been used to a particular pattern of running your life which has taken you nowhere, I think you can see it’s time to try something different, like building more productive habits.
No matter how difficult it seems in the first instance you must stay committed. As the great Vince Lombardi once said: “The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”
3. They understand clarity is vital
Successful people have a dream to fulfill and a clear picture of what they want to achieve. They compete with no one but themselves to be better than whom they are every single day.
Which is why clarity is an essential tool for us all.
Most people do not have a set goal or a picture of what they want to achieve, so they end up doing what others are doing. And surprise, surprise, find themselves struggling and end up feeling totally frustrated and often disheartened.
Find out what you love to do (your passion) and set goals to achieve it.
Be yourself. You are totally unique, with wonderful gifts to bring to the world. That is what will make you stand out from the crowd, because there’s no-one quite like you on the planet.
4. They surround themselves with like minds
Successful people surround themselves with up-lifters, motivators and great individuals that will give the encouragement needed to boost their productivity.
Most people are unsuccessful because of the company they keep. Stay away from those who demean your value, discredit your ideas, disbelieve in your dreams.
If you want to be successful, surround yourself with people that support and encourage your desires and applaud the vision you have for your life.
And you can do this by making sure you are building meaningful relationships with those that will improve your life and not those that will limit you, discourage you or demean you.
5. Successful people are risk takers
Taking risks means going with the choice that scares you the most.
Successful people make decisions to try out something new, uncertain if it will fail or work out.
After all, how can you know if that dream of yours will fail or succeed unless you give it a try.
Think of the wonderful quote from T.S. Eliot “Only those who will risk going too far can find out how far it is possible to go.”
6. They attach deadlines to their goals
Most people set goals and never accomplish them because they keep procrastinating. And we all know what a dream-killer that is. Right?
The most successful among us don’t have that problem because they overcome procrastination by attaching deadlines to their goals.
And they choose to have a positive perspective about the deadlines they’ve set for themselves, knowing that negative thoughts about anything does nothing for them, other than drain their energies.
7. Successful people never give up
Unsuccessful people fail to understand that the road to success will not always be a win-win. They find it hard to accept that at some point they could fail, without the added benefit of understanding, failures don’t define them.
Successful people never give up. They understand that if they don’t give up on something they truly believe in, they will find a way.
They accept failure as part of the journey, and when they fail, they don’t let it stop them.
Remember you may be the only person who believes in you, but it only takes one candle to brighten the darkness in a room.
Brace yourself and try again. There are millions of alternatives available to you, fill yourself with the power of hope.
Anything can happen.
Anything can be.
It is not over until you say so.
